Loophole is run by Melissa Wijnberg from her small holding in Inchanga, Kwazulu-Natal. Her experience and qualifications in Food and Beverage Management have given her the necessary skills to produce top quality, seasonal deli ingredients for catering and markets.

After noting a lack of quality, homegrown and prepared food items for sale at markets in the Greater Durban area, she decided in 2011 to commit herself fully to the project and Loophole was born.

”We struggled to find decent healthy food at our local markets and were sure that we were not alone. So we just decided to open up a stall that serves exactly what we have for lunch at home”

The overnight success has been outstanding. Within the first few weeks of trading at the popular i heart market at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, offers came flooding in for her to open up similar stalls at various other markets such as the popular Wonder Market in Umhlanga, the Bellevue Market in Kloof and The Litchi Market in Salt Rock, Ballito.

First Saturday of every month from 9am – 2pm

I heart Market is a community of makers. For 9 years they have been creating a platform for local design, craft, fashion and food.

I heart Market is the Anti-Mall – providing a retail space for local creatives, that is also a great day out in pleasant surroundings.

On market day, Durbanites and visitors, friends and family gather under the iconic arches of Moses Mabhida Stadium to meet the makers, people watch, eat great food and support local artisans and crafters.

Last Sunday of every month from 9am - 2pm

The Wonder Market is situated in the Chris Saunders Park, opposite WaveHouse Gateway. This ensures pretty surrounds with gorgeously manicured flowerbeds, tall trees providing shade, fresh air and, usually, sunshine. Supporting the market is a great way of getting to enjoy the prettiness of this South African province along with the talent and delicious flavours that are coming out of it.

Foodies will delight in the array of local produce, sweet treats, homemade goods and speciality tastes on offer. Sunday lunches under the trees are nothing shorts of dreamy, especially when coupled with all of the other stalls to enjoy and the joyful sounds of families and friends around you.

The other stalls include fresh flowers, hand-crafted jewellery, goods for the home, and vintage items that add a personal touch. There is also clothing on sale, satisfying even the most dedicated of shopaholics, while still taking advantage of the relaxed vibe and friendly atmosphere for which Umhlanga is so well known.

Last Friday of every month from 4pm - 8pm

On the last Friday of every month, Bellevue Campus in Kloof comes alive with a tangible buzz that is all about artisanal delights and local talent. This market is ideal for eco-friendly foodies and craft enthusiasts with a penchant for all things eclectic.

Organic vegetables and fruit, bunches of fresh flowers, organic butters and cheeses, preservative-free pâtés, smoked trout are all par for the course at this vibey hotspot. There are a number of stalls that showcase home décor items, clothing and crafts that are irresistible additions to one’s home and wardrobe. In addition, a hot coffee or an ice-cold craft beer goes down a treat between perusing the stalls and enjoying the live entertainment.

All of this excitement and wonder is enjoyed under the starry blanket of the night sky of KwaZulu-Natal, and amidst the gorgeous courtyard of the Bellevue Campus. The market is held on the last Friday of every month, between 16h00 and 20h00, making it the perfect place to unwind with friends after a busy week, in preparation for the weekend that lies ahead.

Loophole also does outside catering for special events. Our market style of fresh seasonal and simple produce can be reproduced in your home
